FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

The Toms River Family History Center is located in Ocean County New Jersey.  We have patrons from a 50 mile radius. Our staff is available to help you get started on your research.

  • (This is not a mailing address. Due to limited staff, Family History Centers are unable to respond to mail inquiries.)
  • Family History Center entrance is located at the door on the northside of the church building that faces Intermediate Way Rd. Ring doorbell for entrance to the Family History Center.

  •   Tuesdays: 10am - 3pm and 6:30pm - 9pm
  •   Thursdays: 10am - 3pm and 6:30pm - 9pm
  •   2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month : 10am - 3pm

NOTE:
       During the winter months the Center closes when the local school System of Toms River, NJ closes for bad weather.


Holiday Schedule:

2011

  • Closed Nov 23 - 24, 2011 for Thanksgiving
  • Closed the last two weeks of December 2011
  • Other sporadic closings through the year.

2012

  • Closed the first 2 weeks of January 2012 - re-opens Jan 17, 2012
  • Closed Nov 21-22, 2012 for Thanksgiving
  • Closed last two weeks of December 2012
  • Other sporadic closings through the year.

Center Resources

Collections

  • Family History Library Catalog: This center has the ability to view any of the films and fiche available through the Family History Library Catalog. Online film and microfiche ordering began on 21 September 2011, at www.familysearch.org/films After that date, microfilm and microfiche can not be ordered through the Family History Center itself. Microfilm and microfiche ordered online will continue to be viewed at the Family History Center.
  • The Toms River, NJ Family History Center has a collection of microfilm and microfiche on extended loan from the Family History Library in Salt Lake CityWe have index books of all Extended and MRC collection fiche and films available for patrons to check before ordering a film. 


Databases and Software

FHC Portal: This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.  ie...Ancestry, Fold3, World Vital Records, etc.....
