1818--Tuscaloosa County was formed from the Cherokee and Choctaw Cession. County seat: Tuscaloosa (1818-1822); Newtown (1822-ca. 1843), a tornado detroyed the courthouse on 4 March 1842; Tuscaloosa (ca. 1843-present).
