Welsh poetry called cywydd may be helpful in clarifying information about persons from Wales and their families.

Two types of Welsh poetry contain helpful information for family historians.

Two main categories

  1. Eulogies: composed during the life of the person being praised.
  2. Elegy: composed after the death of the person being commemorated.

Composed in strict metre up to the 17th century and in free metre from the eighteenth century.
