Cemetery records such as tombstones and sexton’s records have valuable information that may give birth and death dates, age at death, name of spouse and children, a maiden name and occasionally, a birthplace and other family members. Sometimes familiy members that can be found no where else are found in these records.

Tombstones may have symbols or insignias indicating military service and social or religious affiliations which can lead to additional records and family history clues. It is important to take note of surrounding tombstones because family members may also be buried nearby.

The Family History Library has cemetery and sexton records for the State Hospital cemetery records in Evanston which had residents from entire state. Additional cemetery records can be found in the Family History Library Catalog under each county.

Tombstone inscriptions have been published in periodicals (see Wyoming Periodicals). Additional suggestions for locating cemetery records are found in United States Cemeteries.
