History and Tidbits

Yamhill county was created from the Oregon Territory 5 July 1843. February 1899. Named for a local Native American tribe, the Yamhill, a part of North Kalapuyan family.

The county seat is McMinnville, since 1886. Lafayette was a former county seat.
