What is in This Collection?

This collection includes index and images of baptisms, confirmations, marriages, prenuptial investigations, marriage dispensations, deaths, and indexes for Catholic parishes in Columbia. Generally, these records were written in chronological order. In smaller parishes, one book was used for all the ordinances (such as baptism, marriage, and death). In larger cities, records of the different types of were kept in separate books. Confirmations were generally written in the baptismal registers.

  • The person may be recorded with an abbreviated or variant form of their name

  • Remember that spelling was generally not standardized until the early part of the 20th century
